Ron and Deeann Jayson, bring to Wyndhill Alpacas a combined

Alpacas
are members of the camelid family indigenous to South America particularly
Bolivia, Chili, and Peru. They are peaceful, gentle animals that
are easier to raise than most livestock. They are one of the least
aggressive animals on earth, which makes them easy to handle. They
are efficient grazers and their padded feet make them gentle on
pasture areas. They eat only the tops of the pasture plants rather
than pulling the entire plant from the ground.
They provide a renewable resource providing 3-12 pounds of fiber
per animal per year. For centuries the alpaca's fiber sustained
ancient cultures, such as the Incas of Peru. Alpacas continue to
contribute significantly to the economy of Peru. Peru exports alpaca
fiber to many countries in many forms with Japan and Italy being
the major consumers of the fiber. The fashion houses of Italy use
baby alpaca for specialty scarves and shawls. Some of the highest
quality men's suits found in Europe are made from lightweight alpaca
yarn.
Alpacas have been called "The World's Finest Livestock Investment"
because they are relatively scarce (approximately 50,000 in the
U. S. compared to 3,000,000 in Peru) and in high demand. Because
alpacas can no longer be imported from South America, domestic growth
will depend on the animals already in the U. S. Alpaca values have
remained constant since their introduction into the United States
in 1984. Before investing in an alpaca purchase, consult your tax
advisor about the effects of a purchase on your tax situation.
